Emergency Couple

One ending of a medical drama is the start of another one as while I was watching Ob & Gyn, Emergency Couple was airing in Korean and there were a lot of good reviews, not to mention Kang Gary also cameo in a scene together with his Monday Girlfriend, Song Ji Hyo who's the female lead of this drama.

If you watch Running Man & are amused by them, you'd find this funny too! HAHA

So what is this show about? It's about an unexpected second chance falling in love with the same person whom you thought was totally not for you, which was why the both of you decided to call it quits in the first place.

Song Ji-hyo plays Oh Jin Hee and Choi Jin-hyuk play Oh Chang Min.

They're a young couple who married in their early twenties (her character is three years older than he is), against his family’s wishes. He comes from a family of all doctors who basically snubbed her for not being good enough, which left them cut off from his money.

He gave up his dream to be a doctor so that he could earn money right away with a salaried desk job, but hated every second of it. Meanwhile she struggled to find work, leading to an even bigger inferiority complex. They fought constantly and eventually got a divorce.

Six years later, he’s gone back to med school to pursue his dream, while she make it through med school when everyone told her she could never amount to anything. And of course, they end up interns at the same hospital, where they’ll have to work in the emergency room together.

The whole show is basically about the patients, the drama, the conflicts they handle at the ER. This is not a playground, they have to resolve critical real life situations someway or somehow. It's not something that they can sweep under the rug like the issues they had with their marriage. They cannot quarrel hysterically like how they did as husband & wife but have to deal with it like professional doctors.

So in a way, the job at ER is kind of a second battleground for their unresolved problems which they experience during their tragic marriage that ended in divorce.

I am glad that there's a catalyst - the second male lead, who's the Chief of the ER dept. Oh Jin Hee seemed to have many accidental-skinship moments with the Chief that were witnessed by Chang Min which probed him into thinking, "She wasn't even that gentle & warm with me back then..." But the truth was, she did! They were so in love with each other back then, what went wrong?

May I present to you the destroyer of all marriage/relationships - THE MONSTER-IN-LAW.

I totally facepalm whenever I see any scenes with Chang Min's mother. I basically just fast forward the show cos she's so dreadful to watch. Really. I would say she's the anti-reagent throughout the whole show.

Many little incidents that happened in the hospital reminded Chang Min of their courtship and eventually he realised he still love Jin Hee and the remaining of the show is about him proving his love for her and him convincing his mother very surely that he wants Jin Hee.

Of course, how does the 2 women able to accept & embrace each other? The unfortunate death of Chang Min's father. Jin Hee gave the mother & son a lot of comfort and through this, Chang Min's mother finally accepted Jin Hee....

It's otherwise quite a predictable plot despite having second-lead & even third-leads trying to come in between our OTP but we all KNOW that it's a drama about second chance at love.

If only they had chosen a better cast or perhaps written Chang Min's mother a little better, I would have like this drama a lot because of the little romantic moments & flashback of our couple. But his mother is too awful for me to accept and if only her air time was lesser la....
