Queen Of SOP (2012)
Queen of SOP/The SOP Queen, I think there are a few English titles there are even a few Chinese titles such as《胜女的代价》and《SOP 女王》.
This is joint collaboration between TW & China starring Chen Qiao En (Chen Xinyi from Fated To Love You), Godfrey Gao (hot TW 190cm model who can barely act :X) & newcomer Zhang Han.
I would have thought it's about a corporate series whereby our female lead would always do things rigidly in format or a standard operating procedure but as it turns out, it's quite an unbelievable Cinderella story :P Why? Cos when you watch it you'll know it.
My own synopsis:
Lin Xiaojie (Chen Qiao'en) plays an average office girl of a shopping mall always run errands for everyone and regarded as insignificant of Haiyue Mall. Tang Jun (Zhang Han) is some foreign investor/finance specialist based in London. It was later revealed that he's the heir/successor of leading Shopping Mall in Shanghai.
Gao Ziqi (Godfrey Gao) is the younger son of the CEO of Haiyue Mall - think something huge like Takashimaya or Suntec City, whom his competitive elder half-brother considers as a rival as their father dote on Ziqi more. Bai Jiqinq (Coco Jiang) is a successful international mode/actress/celebrity - think Christy Chung's level, and she's actually an item with Gao Ziqi but they had kept their relationship under wraps since she's a well-known celebrity and celebrities are supposed to hide their relationships
And so, the show started with Lin Xiaojie being assigned to be Bai Jiqing's assistant for an overseas photoshoot/events in London. While she had to get coffee for the shooting crew, a biker thug stole her handbag. Tang Jun was flirting with some British girl and decided to play hero to rescue a fellow helpless Asian/Chinese girl to get her handbag back. But he had to jump into River Thames for it. Xiaojie was utterly grateful to Tang Jun. They quickly became friends and Tang Jun offered to be her tour guide in London. However, as she has to return back to Taiwan, she didn't bear hope to be able to see him again.
Meanwhile Ziqi & Jiqing had spent time happy times in London and Ziqi thought it's time to take their relationship to the next level when they get back to Taiwan.
Xiaojie had always dreamed of studying overseas in London and was doing researching for school and looking for places to rent. She stumbled onto a nice apartment with her favourite cartoon character - Peter Rabbit and sent an email to enquire the owner, Tom if she could rent it. Turns out the owner of the apartment was Tang Jun, who was delighted to know he'd be landlord of Xiaojie. So Xiaojie became online pals with "Tom", not knowing he was the guy who helped her to snatch her handbag when she was in London.
Come New Year's Eve, Lin Xiaojie was on duty at the Supermart stacking beer towers. Gao Ziqi was strolling in the mart, intending to get some drinks when he heard a horrible singing by Lin Xiaojie n accidentally startled her with his presence. The both of them tripped and fell onto the beer tower. Without knowing who he was, Xiaojie ordered him to set the beer tower right. Later when she found out who he was, it shocked the hell out of her life.
Through some fortunate circumstances, the CEO was shopping as regular customer and was impressed with Xiaojie's service and her attitude. He decided to give her job in the marketing dept and this conflicts with Xiaojie's plan to move to London for further studies. She told Tom she can't proceed with her plan cos she was offered a job at marketing dept at Haiyue. Through some coincidence, Tang Jun's mom who's CEO of Huanghai Mall will be dropping by Taiwan to discuss a collaboration with Haiyue's CEO and asked Tang Jun to go with her. OF COURSE Tang Jun was delighted cos that meant he could see Xiaojie.
Through some turn of events, Xiaojie played tour guide when Tang Jun visited Taiwan. With her new job position, she also get to work closely with Ziqi. It was obvious that Tang Jun likes Xiaojie and she has positive feelings towards him. Jiqing has a part as catalyst to 'ignite' the triangle of Xiaojie, Tang Jun & Ziqi.
Xiaojie naively thought Ziqi had really grown to like her from all the OTs spent together at work, unbeknownst that she was being used as a distraction for Ziqi after his proposal was rejected by Jiqing. Alas, when she knew the truth from Jiqing, she accepted the offer to work in Shanghai and that gave her chance to be close with Tang Jun.
What follows is a series of corporate involvement which I am totally bored by it and can't be bother to mention it but it was a happy-almost-crappy-ending... :P
My review:
I'm sorry, no matter how tall & handsome Godfrey is, he CANNOT act. I winced every time he appears. I could see that Coco Jiang tries hard too but seriously, both of them should just do what they do best, remain on the T-stage & catwalk model & continue to look stunning on fashion magazines or endorse designer brands. If you want to act, be into it.
Let me just say that Qiao'en HAS BEEN a professional actress (since early 2000s) but the storyline of this drama really isn't focused. She really isn't convincing of this role. If you had seen her in Fated To Love You, you'll KNOW INSTANTLY that her performance in this drama has been marred by whoever created this character/role. Qiao'en is sooooooo capable of other more challenging & meaningful roles.
The character Lin Xiaojie just occurs to me that she's rather a pampered bimbo. I mean, REALLY! Throughout the whole show, all she does was looking pretty and pouting whenever she stumbles some difficulty. Whenever she tries to solve something, both the guys would always step in & help and she ends up doing nothing much except being thankful to both of them. How on earth did she deserve the attention & affection of not one, but two elite/highflyer, influential sons of some big corporation. Why would those guys see in her other than she looks pretty?
Sorry but it's not convincing. Lin Xiaojie doesn't have the pull factor like Qiao'en's character as Chen Xinyi in FTLY & Ye Tianyu in Prince Turn To Frog.
Basically this whole show is about how she miraculously has the fortune to get to know 2 extremely rich guys who both happen to like her, who both offered her help along the way, & letting her eventually rise up to become a capable marketing director. And that's it!
Towards behind it was really boring with all the scheming corporate plots. I'm sorry but it got pretty dry/bland...
Oh, the only thing worth mention is: Most of the scenes with Qiao'en & Zhang Han in it are adorably sweet but it usually last for a teeny weeny bit and it's gone. Some episodes don't even have them interacting....
Aiya, don't waste your time unless you enjoy watching pretty, good looking people who interact with one another without depth LOL!

My review:
