You/Man From Another Star


Much hype had been given to this show simply because it was Jeon Ji Hyun's comeback to the dramaland as her last drama was in 1999. She had been doing purely films/movies since then. As one of the biggest Hallyu Star, her performance in kdrama was much awaited as well as expected. It helps that this is a sci-fi love story!

If all 400 year-old aliens looked like how the male lead, Kim Soo Hyun did, I'm pretty sure the earth welcome all of them with wide arms. If university professors all looked like how Professor Do did, every girl would pass university/college with super flying colours.

I would think the success of this drama had to be the storyline set-up and it's direction, of course the chemistry between our male & female lead. You'll see the more hysterical one is our leading lady and the more composed one is obviously our leading man, having 400 years of headstart living on earth.

Storyline (in my own words):
Alien in weird clothing, who has the power to freeze time, landed in Joseon and saved a little girl from falling off the cliff. He settled himself into Joseon & befriended the girl. Girl likes him and gave him a gift. But he was discovered being an alien and pursue by stupid villages who think he's dangerous & pose a threat to the neighbourhood. Girl died trying to shield him. He became devastated.

Story fast forward a little to showcase that every time when he makes a seemingly genuine friend, they all freaked out knowing he's an alien or tried to take advantage of his powers for their own selfish gains and he decided not to be close to anyone and chosen to shut himself out until.... 1970s where he met a really trustworthy person who became his friend - Lawyer Jang.


Our hero, Do Min Joon worked in a bank as an accountant in the 1970s. Lawyer Jang was just fresh out of collage, penniless and tried to borrow a loan from the bank who refused. Devastated, he tried to commit suicide but was saved by DMJ. DMJ gotten him a job in the bank.

They became BFFs ever since until 2014 where Lawyer Jang forged many death certificates for DMJ since DMJ will never age! He naturally became a fatherly figure for him.

Then, we have our heroine, Cheon Song Yi, a self-absorbed prima donna actress who used to be successful as a child actress but with declining popularity due to her approaching 30. Unfortunately for her, she has a sucky mom who keep sucking money from her. She has lots of pride but when it comes to her family, it always gets her. She's from a broken family basically and her mom is known as a money sucker who treats her daughter like a 摇钱树.

There are also sub-plot of her & other rival actress but I personally think they're quite trivial. There are also 2nd-male lead syndrome who doesn't ever get the girl. BUT, he has a creepy elder brother who is the villain of the whole show. Maybe it's just me but I feel that the villain shouldn't even get more 'air time' than a 2nd male lead! Argh!

So the story goes....

Our male & female lead are neighbours. Because he's an alien, he can hear voices or what people are talking about. Their first meeting was because she was wailing at home. She was surprised & annoyed that this guy doesn't recognise her cos she's supposed to be a famous superstar/celebrity.

So it turned out that she's STILL a university student who had nv completed her degree and was urged by her agency to go back study. To her dismay, he's the professor in a few of her classes. Obviously she isn't a bright student and tried to negotiate for not having to hand in assignment. He was annoyed by this girl's level of absurd & obnoxious. But guess what! She's annoyed too! Because this guy is the first & only guy NOT smittened/attracted to her. So she keeps trying every opportunity to seduce him!

So we have the creepy guy, the elder brother of the 2nd male lead right? Apparently, he has a clingy girlfriend (Yoo In Young) who was Songyi's rival. He had long wanted to get rid of that clingy, mental actress and was plotting to do it at an event happening at a cruise. Unfortunately, Songyi had unknowingly witness their conversation and the guy's attempted murder. So after getting rid of that girlfriend, the creepy villain's next target is Songyi.

We have Do Min Joon keep getting visions of Songyi being in danger and had to save her a few times by using his time-freeze & teleporting powers. In midst of danger, Songyi seemed to see Min Joon's face a few times which she tried confronting him a few times, to which of cos he deny all those times. Songyi thought perhaps she was going crazy because he's all she could think of.

She eventually confessed to him... not once, not twice but... a handful of times but all she got was rejection. Do Min Joon is a alien who was waiting for his spaceship to get back to where he's from for 400 years. His chance finally came and he doesn't want to give up just because of a girl. But we all know he adored her so much. We know because he kissed her everytime without her knowing whenever he freeze time. But it comes with a price because alien cannot come into contact with human saliva. Haha! This part is damn funny.

He eventually come to accept the mutual attraction and they both live happily ever after....

I teared reading this YFAS review, each & every line felt so real. Because that's how awesome this drama is!

Verdict: 
Which planet are you living on if you haven't seen this show? GO WATCH IT ALREADY!!!!! It's too freaking funny to miss. Jeon Ji Hyun really went all out for her 'comeback'. It actually almost seemed like playing a parody version of her for this show!


She has no qualms playing all the unglam parts! I mean she's supposed to be commercial queen Jeon Ji Hyun but.... She practically same sampat and provided all the comic scenes!

Another not-to-miss is her younger brother. He only initially had minor parts but I think the show wanted to return fanservice and increased his parts more. The whole show is basically a jumbo combo of a lot of appropriate humour for me! And I'm sure for you as well!
