Because of Seo In Gook in Master's Sun, I decided to watch the drama in which he played the first male lead - Reply 1997.

From left: Yoo Jung, Hak Chan, Yoonjae, Shiwon, Junhee, nv bothered his name :P

Before watching, I was reading a lot of reviews that claimed that this drama is THE drama of the year and not to be missed and lots of positive exclamation etc etc Of course we all know Seo In Gook is hot so I started watching. So yes, I watched if FOR HIM.

Reply 1997 is a very cute, light-hearted, coming-of-age, idol chasing drama. Nostalgic & familiar teenage tingling sensation. Quite similar like 那一年我们一起追过的女孩. Every chapter in your teenage life is seemingly life & death. You cry & laugh over it lol.

In short, this drama focus on the Korean fan culture that emerged in the 1990s when idol groups took center stage and K-pop was blossoming. It tells the story of 6 former high school friends from a school in Busan who meet again in 2012 and brings back memories to 1997 when they were still high school students.

Moving back and forth between the 90s and 2012, the story centres on the life of Sung Shi Won, played by Jung Eun Ji, who idolizes boyband H.O.T and her life with her 5 friends, particularly her 青梅竹马 best friend, Yoon Yoonjae, played by Seo In Gook.

I can tell you it's EXTREMELY CUTE & RELATABLE! Because I grew up as a fangirl idolizing boybands as well! All the fan culture such as fanfic writing, great amount of time spend doing up cardboards of idols' names, waiting for idols to appear, sporting hairstyle/clothes to the what the girl groups are wearing etc While THESE are relatable to me but I'm not really a fan of 'coming-of-age'. I am more interested in 'adult life'.

So 12 episodes down but they're still at high school graduation, it's really kinda moving at a slow speed.

We all know Yoonjae has a thing for Shiwon since the very first episode and we're just watching how they eventually notice each other more than friends and get attracted to each other but.... after watching 10 episodes, none of that happened. Pfffffff.....

Yoonjae did confess to Shiwon but got friendzoned by her... because she is his elder brother's girlfriend. Yoonjae's elder bro beat him to it and gotten the girl first. So 'play cheat' lor!

Shiwon's best friend Yoo Jung & Hak Chan (one of the 3 BFFs of Yoonjae) are a couple but I wasn't really interested in their love story cos Yoo Jung is quite whiny & princessy.

What interest me was the other loveline of this drama - Junhee actually has a crush on Yoonjae! Wonder what happens to Junhee's one-sided unrequitted love.

Yoonjae was under the impression that Junhee likes Shiwon as well but when Junhee confessed to Yoonjae, Yoonjae deemed Junhee as joking... awww, heartbreak. We see how little gestures from Yoonjae would send Junhee's heart racing.

I mean, Korean dramas hardly portray any gay character and I think the subtle homosexual in the drama is kind of a start, maybe?? Let's all be a little more open with the cute gay loveline!

Ok, I supposed the mere remaining 4 episodes will feature their college/university lives and eventually adult working years so SURPRISE ME MORE ok!!!!
