As an aivid TV fan, I'd watched SO MUCH TV all my life! I think I ought to 回馈 some of what I'd watched & collected & analysed for not wasting all my 青春 watching TV! Haha!

Let's take a look at some difference...

Hong Kong: TVB (无线电视) , ATVB (亚视电视)

HK's dramas can be classified into: Uniform & Periodic.

HK dramas' storylines usually involve with ALL types: Romance, Family kinship, True Friendship. Going through tough times and finally seeing the light, Good guys finish last, Bad guys receive their punishment.

The dramas are also added with a tint of 真实感 whereby you could tell it's not just a drama but also learning about life. For periodic dramas, almost 70% are true history. Hong Kong drama are well known for their sword fighting & martial arts 拍摄手法.

Here's a list of some 深入民心的古装戏, (Almost all Jin Yong novels)

射雕英雄传 (Cheung Chilam & Athena Chu),

神雕侠侣 (Early: Andy Lau & Chen Yulian, New: Louis Koo & Carmen Lee),

倚天屠龙记 (Early: Tony Leung Chiu Wai),

天龙八部 (Huang Rihua as Qiao Feng, Chen Haomin as Duan Yu),

碧血剑 (Currently on Channel U starring Lin Jia Dong),

鹿顶记 (Early: Andy Lau & , Tony Leung, New: Ma Junwei & Jordan Chan)

寻秦记, (Louis Koo, Raymond Lam, Xuan xuan)

洛神, (Cai Shaofen, Ma Junwei, Chen Hao)

西游记, (1st part: Dicky Cheung, 2nd part: Chen Haomin)

无头东宫, 宋世杰, AND SO MUCH MORE!!! ARGH!!! Do catch all these classics!! You can check out the VCDs in TS or Poh Kim! Haha~

When I talk about uniform, I really meant uniform 制服! In the 90s, there are lots of dramas revolving in Lawyers (一号皇庭), Doctors (妙手人心), Cops/Police, PI Detectives (刑事侦缉档案,保护证人组,飞虎队,O即实录,勇探实录,陀枪师姐) & Pathologists, Firemen (烈火雄心), Chefs/Cooks (阖府同请, 美味天王). And nowadays there are even more, like Pilots/Flight Attendants (冲上云霄), utterly COOL yeah?

Taiwan: SET (三立电视), TVBS Asia

Taiwan's dramas can be classified into: Tearjerkers & 偶像剧.

You know la, early days of Taiwan media were known were their varieties and their tearjerker soap drama. One very good example was Qiong Yao novels. Almost ALL THE SCENE are CRYING scenes. Ok la, I myself watched too. When I was younger, there was only Taiwan & Hong Kong drama, always dilly dally and kept crying non-stop scenes, housewives love these types one.

BUT!!! Ever since the Meteor Garden started and 4 hunks popped onto the scenes of Taiwan. There was the start of OU XIANG JU!!!

And then right after F4 was also the rise of pop group like 5566 who starred in MVP Valentine. All of these were big hits and SET & Jungiery are the current number 1 supply of Entertainment & Varieties & Artiste Management. Although kinda off topic but that's the current situation. And because Taiwan was known for it's tearjerkers, ou xiang ju nowadays would also input some from the origins! Hehe! =P

China: Beijing TV (北京电视), CEI (中国娱乐电视)

China ma...what do you think? Confirm is periodic, historic drama loh! Especially about the different Dynasties. Qin, Tang, Ming, Yuan etc. There's confirm no doubt about the history since it originated from China, but the storyline can be real boring cos it's really chim. Mostly would be talking about war, revolution, official politics in the palace….which are quite sian~

But CEI often collaborate with MediaWorks, like 杨门女将,书剑恩仇录. Etc. But the watch factor wasn't enough to be compared to Hong Kong (in terms of 华人制作). The 金马奖 is from Taiwan and 金项奖 from Hong Kong. But no particular film awards from China. (Maybe there is, but we wouldn't know)

Japan: Fuji TV, NHK

Japanese dramas can be classified into: Romance & Comedies

The good thing about Japanese drama is that, it's usually on the average 10-12 episodes and no longer than 18 episodes. It only involved in a handful of leads and the storyline is very clear cut. Not draggy but not rushed either, just enough for audience's viewing. B4 Taiwan, Japan had already started filming ou xiang ju but it wasn't that popular in Singapore yet until year 2000 where it was the J-POP, J-drama reign that Channel 8 kept showing Japanese dramas on TV like:

Love 2000 (Takeshi Kaneshiro, Miho Nakayama)

Overtime (Takashi Sorimachi, Makiko Esumi)

Long Vacation (Takuya Kimura, Yuko Yamaguchi, Takako Matsuo, Yutaka forgot-surname)

Love Generation & Hero (Takuya Kimura, Takako Matsuo)

Terms of a Witch (Nanako Matsushima & Hideaki Takazaiwa)

Summer Snow (Tsuyoshi Domoto, Ryoko Hirosue)

People of my age should have seen the above Japanese dramas before. Those were the CLASSICS of J-dorama. The above are romance, of cos there are also comedies like Power Office Lady 戍务二课 (Makiko Esumi), Food Frenzy (Kyoko Fukada, Tsuyoshi [SMAP member can't rem surname but he's 草剪刚]), there are more! Mostly with Kinki Kids or SMAP members around…

Korea: KBS, SBS, MNCKorean drama can be classified into: Filming effects & Storyline

Under filming effects, there are: Colour theme &

Under storyline, there are: Simplicity & Complexity

Under simplicity & complexity, there are: Boring/Draggy & Not Boring/Not Draggy

Anyway, Korean dramas, only THOSE few famous ones loh, not a lot actually. Those Korean Ah Ge, Ah Jie also really those few names. But all thanks to Mr Bae Yong Jun and his role in Winter Sonata made Korean drama one of the major film production in Asia!

报告完毕.
