Continuing our quest on Diamond & Bridal Fairs. Here are the rest of our experiences.

Rings
5. JannPaul Diamonds @ House of Hung, Far East Shopping Centre  (Apr 21)

While we got there, the guy, David who corresponded with Dearie was busy attending to another couple so we had to look & sit around. There was a nice girl, Michelle, PRC gal from Hainan Island who entertained us by sharing with us the 4Cs again :P until David was available.

The gal only arrived in Singapore and worked at House of Hung or 4 months and the topic eventually drifted to about what's nice to do in Singapore and what's nice to eat here. It was a comfortable topic. It took about 10-15min till David was finally free to attend to us.

His explanation was very indepth and he certainly is confident & proud of their diamond. They are all indeed very well cut, all the magnified images were extremely sharp. Check out their videos! Even on videos captured with a DSLR camera with video mode, you can already see the hearts & arrows.

David showed us all the ways to look/study/examine a diamond and we were certainly impressed :D

Some photos of the exquisite diamond on their FB. Camera only can already capture so nice, if you look through microscope it's even sharper & clearer one! :D

David quoted us a lose diamond price of:

  • $4.1k for 0.5ct F VS2
  • $3.5k for 0.5ct G VS2
  • There will be 2% off if it's paid in cash.

Lose diamond already is this price, what more if added with setting? And their setting were at least 1k. Hmm....

Dearie asked to look at their wedding band but we weren't really impressed but we have to say they really have pretty diamonds as compared to what we'd seen so far. And their wedding bands were also another 1k for one. Like that wedding band already 2k then plus 3k ring, total of 5-6k is also possible. Good lord. That's more than my 2 months salary. Haiz!

We asked David if there will be further discount if we take 3 rings (a standard question which we always ask la) but all he said was, "Sorry, we don't give discount. Everything is final nett price." That was a little 'off' for me.

Nonetheless, we thanked David for his time but we told him that we'd look around more. He was very confident and said, "You will definitely still come back. Most of my clients say they'll want to look around more but after seeing my diamond, you'll realise you're really paying the money that's worth it."

WAH~ TOTALLY LIKE A BOSS!

Then he smiled and said, "I look forward to hear & see you both again." He said until sibei FOR SURE he'll hear & see us again you know! Haha maybe that's what usually happen till he already knows what's gonna happen.

Wedding band I still prefer Canary. I think it's quite likely we'd be getting the lose diamond from JannPaul then get it set at Canary :)

6. Vivo Diamonds @ Tanjong Pagar Rd (7 May)
It was an off day for me (in lieu of Vesak Day) but Dearie had to take leave so that we could make the deposit payment for Raffles Marina as well as paying Vivo Diamond a visit.

Long time ago, we have already heard of Vivo since most of our friends gotten their rings from there but when I went to their website back then, I wasn't really impressed with their diamond. Hence when Dearie scheduled appointment with them, I wasn't really enthu cos I initially thought we'd be more or less getting it from JannPaul :X

It was a cosy place along Tanjong Pagar Rd alongside with so many other bridal studios. It was really appropriate to have a jewellery retail there.

At first it was a mature lady who attended to us, she was quite humourous and I actually didn't mind having her to introduce Vivo diamond to us but since Dearie had already made an appointment with Issac, the gemologist/designer then we'd wait for him to come by.

The procedure was similar to how JannPaul's David was taking us through with the various scopes & explanations. Even though I wasn't very interested in the technical aspects of diamond cuts etc but I actually felt that David knew more and was more professional & experienced facing customers. I dunno la, maybe Issac was a little more shy & soft-spoken? Or maybe it was the comparison with David's confidence?

After the 'diamond tutorial' ended, Issac then quoted us lose diamond price of:

  • $3260 for 0.51ct F VS2
  • $2940 for 0.51ct G VS2
  • Above are final credit card price (inclusive GST)
  • There will be 3% off if it's paid in cash

When we asked if there will be a further discount if we take 3 rings (including their wedding bands), he was like, "Actually I know my range is rather competitive so hmm... I doubt you can get this price elsewhere already."

Actually being a customer, I know and am ok if the seller decide there isn't going to be any discount. It's not a matter of 'have' or 'don't have', but more of how the sales person puts it across and their attitude of how they handle it. Issac isn't wrong to mention that he has one of the lowest price neither was David arrogant when he said they don't give discount. It's a matter of whose story you buy and the experience you're buying it.

Of course there are impulsive buys and purchase regrets, but just try to like what you paid money for and hope to overtime recuperate from your loses, if any.

We thanked Issac and told him we'd get back to him again soon if we'd decided to purchase the diamond ring from Vivo :)

Bridal Fairs
2. Love:Style Wedding @ Marina Square Atrium  (Apr 21)
The moment we got there, the fashion show was happening. We see many ppl snapping pics of those beautiful ang moh models parading in really outrageous & daring gowns. I wonder if any local brides would be garang enough to try...

I saw that White Link was one of the exhibitors. Shan has been doing a lot of prior wedding research before me and been to many fairs. White Link was one of the bridal studios that offers what her fiance & her had in mind. Since I'd never heard or come across White Link, I though of learning more about it.

Just as Xiang & I were heading toward White Link's booth, some frail looking uncle who seems like he had been standing there for a long time shoved a brochure into my arms. White Link was just opposite but all their tables were occupied so even if we went over to their booth, I doubt they'd have time/space to entertain us so I stood by and listen to what the old uncle had to say.

They were from Seletar Broadway. (After looking at their website, I felt impulsive need to tell them, ar boh I revamp your website for you la and you let me rent a gown in exchange :X)

Their booth looked pretty grand, luxurious. They had a huge backdrop of an overseas shot of a couple at, probably Australia. So there was a petite lady who started intro-ing us about their package and her trying to 'get to know us' more by asking questions on what are possibly the items we're looking at etc.

We were actually rather tired from looking at rings so we didn't really have much energy to entertain her so we jumped straight to asking what packages are they offering. She showed us a $32XX figure with the typical coverage. What struck our attention was that they didn't state anywhere that that was the final figure. The 32XX was before GST. So Dearie & I were wondering, road show can show prices before GST meh? I thought it's BY LAW that they have to show the nett price? I mean, hello... it's like IT show, unscrupulous ppl showing the price BEFORE GST then while they were queuing to pay then eh? It's not the final price yet. Pffffff.... turn off.

End up we didn't buy her sales and said we were hungry and we'll 'be back later' after dinner. Obviously we scoot off after dinner anyway :P

I guess Bridal Fairs & signing packages with studio/boutiques just isn't our thing. Having been to 2 bridal fairs were enough. We'll find cheaper deals with ala-carte :)

Here's more hunting to go!
